Description: SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2) also known as 2019-nCoV (2019 Novel Coronavirus) is a positive sense RNA virus responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic. SARS-CoV-2 expresses a trimeric spike glycoprotein on the surface the virus, which is comprised of S1 and S2 domains. Within the S1 domain is the receptor binding domain (RBD) that is responsible for binding to the host receptor angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), and allowing the virus to enter permissive cells1,2. Mutations within the RBD can also lead to decreased affinity of neutralizing antibodies to binding to the virus3.

Notes: Predicted molecular weight is 33.2 kDa. The observed molecular weight may differ from predicted due to post translational modifications.
