Description:
SARS-CoV (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus) also known as SARS-CoV-1 is a positive sense RNA virus responsible for the 2002-2004 outbreak of SARS. SARS-CoV expresses a trimeric spike glycoprotein on the surface the virus, which is comprised of S1 and S2 domains. Within the S1 domain is the receptor binding domain (RBD) that is responsible for binding to the host receptor angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), and allowing the virus to enter permissive cells1,2. Notes: Predicted molecular weight is 33 kDa. The observed molecular weight may differ from predicted due to post translational modifications. References: 1. Rota, P. A. et al.
